A minimalist evening journaling scene features a closed stone-grey notebook with a subtle fabric texture, positioned slightly off-center on a dark walnut desk. Next to it, a sleek brushed-steel table lamp with a cylindrical white shade casts warm, focused light onto the notebook’s cover, creating a soft highlight and gentle shadow gradient. A small, square glass of water and a single black pen rest nearby, carefully spaced to maintain balance. The background fades into soft darkness with only the suggestion of a wall’s edge, keeping attention on the journal. Photographic realism, shot from a slightly elevated three-quarter angle with a controlled, shallow depth of field. The atmosphere is calm, reflective, and disciplined, conveying an intentional nightly journaling habit for personal growth.

About Journaling My Life.

Hello, I am Mary Rettig.  I am interested in journaling, stress management, breathwork, and arts & crafts for well-being.

I love cats and have adopted two stray cats named Oreo and Blackie. They are mainly indoor cats, but he goes outdoors several times daily.

I have been a vegetarian for over 15 years.

I have been married for over 25 years and am a caregiver to my husband.

I created the blog Journaling My Life because I want to pursue my interests and passions. I love to journal and would be happy to serve as your journaling guide.

The focus of this blog is on women who love journaling or want to explore it for growth and self-awareness.

I will offer tips, prompts, and best practices concerning journaling and developing a practice and creative storytelling on paper or screen.

There are many ways to journal as there are people. So, subscribe to my blog and newsletter, grab a journal, and let’s go.

An open journal dedicated to personal growth goals is displayed on a pale, matte-finished desk, showing a clean two-page spread titled “Quarterly Growth Plan” in precise, printed lettering. The pages are divided into structured sections with thin, grey lines: “Habits”, “Mindset”, “Health”, and “Career”, each containing short, neatly written bullet points. A muted taupe sticky note with a small checklist is partially tucked into the top corner. To the left, a slim, silver-framed analog clock with a white face hints at time management, while a muted beige ceramic cup holding pens sits in the background, softly blurred. Cool, indirect daylight illuminates the scene from the right, creating subtle, professional contrast. Photographic realism, eye-level composition with rule-of-thirds framing, evoking clarity, intention, and strategic self-improvement through journaling.
